Junot Diaz in Central Park

Images Junot Diaz was invited to speak at Summerstage this evening. Among the amazing things he said about process, inspiration, empathy...he also addressed having a voice for the dead, and the many, many people from his culture that could have no voice. Art is a privilege, a complicated privilege.

11 Artists on Chinoiserie

For the next week, eleven NYC-area artists are displaying work on the theme: "Chinoiserie and other Follies."  A diverse group took on different aspects of our cultural views of China. Topics such as inter-country adoption, Marxism, bird patterns, and former 20c singing stars came up. Worth at view at the Thomas Hunter Project Space, Lexington between 68-69th, lower level, until July 17th.

Oh yeah, the 4th?

Images Today the picnic-ers chose their East River spot before noon, EV hipsters started drinking at noon, then I see in Central Park the Granny Peace Brigade and Rev. Billy read from the Bill of Rights and Constitution...oh yeah, that is the spirit of the 4th.

Waterfalls = good summer time

Images A nice summer stroll near the South Street Seaport area is made more interesting with the opening of Eliasson's Waterfalls. The four vary height and backdrop. The most stunning might be the tallest one north. The least interesting is the one  leaning against an industrial site in Brooklyn. Want a free ride on the water to see most of them? Take the Ikea Water Taxi...a happy boat.
