        Ruben Ochoa's Dancing Popos       

Friday, September 28, on the Lower East Side... two Creative Capital         grantee events. First, catch the premiere performance of Lisa         Bielawa and Susan Narucki's Creative Capital-supported         project Chance Encounter, a musical composition inspired by and         brought to life in transient public space. Performances are at 1:00PM         and 5:30PM in Seward Park outside the Seward Park Library at 192 East         Broadway. Then, at 7:00PM, see Ruben Ochoa's one-day         installation Dancing PoPos at The Storefront for Art and Architecture         at 97 Kenmare Street.

Lit to Life Fest at MCNY

The American Place Theater at the Museum of the City of NY is presenting Literature To Life: Festival of Theatre and Thought. Saturday 9/29 and Sunday the 30th. Sandra Cisneros, Sue Monk Kidd, Richard Wright and Frank McCourt will participate. (more below). Frank McCourt reading from "Teacher Man" is not to be missed...he's a funny old guy!

Printed Matter Book Fair

Printed Matter, Inc. presents The NY Art Book Fair, New York City's annual fair devoted to contemporary art books, art catalogues, artists' books, art periodicals, and 'zines. Over 120 international exhibitors, from major distributors and antiquarian dealers to independent publishers and artists, occupy a dual-level 20,000 square foot space. Inc., and moderated by Bakari Kitwana of the National Hip-Hop Political Convention, this discussion of the gender crisis facing the hip-hop generation features intellectuals and activists including Mark Anthony Neal, Duke University; Joan Morgan, author of When Chickenheads Come Home to Roost: My Life as a Hip-Hop Feminist (Simon & Schuster, 1999); M-1, aka Mutulu Olugabala, rapper and activist; Byron Hurt, director of Hip Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes; and Tracy Sharpley-Whiting, Vanderbilt University.
